Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Valle Del Cauca, Calima culture, Ilama Phase, ca. 400 BCE to 100 CE. A hand-built pottery jar bearing the stylized likeness of a crouching figure, perhaps a dwarf, on the front. The large face is dominated by jowly cheeks as well as deeply incised nasolabial and cheek striations while attenuated arms and legs are present on either side of the visage. A dwarf typically held high social standing as they were believed to be granted special powers and abilities by the gods. Size: 5.25" W x 5.125" H (13.3 cm x 13 cm)
