Description:

Near East / Holy Land / Constantinople, Byzantine Empire, ca. 5th to 8th century CE. A painstakingly carved stone (steatite) cross pendant, with its upper vertical arm slightly longer than the others, in part due to the presence of an integral loop for suspension. The arms are further embellished with incised bands; the horizontal arms flare out like cones; while the vertical arms a narrow at their termini. A reminder of the devotion and piety of people during this time period. Size: 0.65" W x 0.9" H (1.7 cm x 2.3 cm)
