Western Asia, ca. 3rd to 5th century CE. A very handsome gold cross pendant. A wonderful example of the early glassmaker's art when glass was used in lieu of more expensive precious stones. The arms of the cross of pale green glass inlaid in gold around a central medallion with dark glass inlay. Three pendants with small glass pearls. An artist's work in an era of strong display of religious affiliation. Size: Cross itself measures 1"L x 3/4"W, bale adds add'l 3/8" to length (3,7 x 1,9 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private USA collection acquired in the 1970s.
