Near East/Holy Land, early Byzantine/Eastern Roman Empire, ca. 300 to 500 CE. A lovely opaque cobalt blue glass pendant encircled by a 97% gold (equivalent to 22K+) band, with a gold loop at the top for suspension. The molded glass pendant features an image of a galley with the heads of eight sailors visible along with one side of their oars. Who might have originally purchased this ancient pendant - a military man who had won a famous naval battle? A merchant who had made himself wealthy from trade at sea? Hopefully it will have important meaning for you as well. It comes with a modern cord and clasp to be worn as a necklace.
