Description:

Ancient Near East, Early Bronze Age II to III, ca. 2900 to 2650 BCE. A hand-built pottery baby feeder with a petite concave base, a spherical body with a gently carinated lower section, and a flared rim surrounding the deep interior. A conical dispensing spout protrudes from one side of the vessel and would have enabled an infant to feed without spilling the vessel's contents. The exterior is covered in beige-hued slip and further adorned with thin, black-painted lines that form a broad latticework pattern. Size: 4.375" L x 3.875" W x 3.3" H (11.1 cm x 9.8 cm x 8.4 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired from multiple pieces, with minor restoration to areas of base and body, and resurfacing with overpainting along new material and break lines. Nicks to base, body, rim, and spout, with fading to areas of original pigment, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and traces of original pigment throughout.
