Ancient Northern Europe, British Isles, England, Late Bronze Age, ca. 900 BCE. A striking bronze socketed axe head featuring a curved blade and rectangular body with a double-lipped socket and a petite side loop below. Dating from the Late Bronze Age, this finely preserved socketed bronze axe head exhibits features of form and construction that distinguish a family of axes used in the British Isles. It is of a particular type that captures the refinement of form and decoration that marks the final stage in the development of a class of weapons that was most popular. Size: 4.9" L x 1.4" W x 2" H (12.4 cm x 3.6 cm x 5.1 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.
