**First Time At Auction**
Northern Africa, Morocco, Fez (Fes) Region, ca. 19th century CE. A remarkable pottery bowl of an impressive scale presenting thick walls that swell out from a rounded bottom to a broad, flared rim, all sitting upon a ring-form base. Adorned in hues of emerald, lemon yellow, lavender, and periwinkle on a white glaze ground, the beautiful vessel is skillfully hand-painted with the abstract image of a quatrefoil on the interior basin, filled with floral and geometric motifs and surrounded by phytomorphic designs. The rim is additionally embellished by an alternating pattern of ovoid motifs and parallel striations. A pair of perforations pierce the circular foot - one of which is strung with a modern metal wire - allowing the bowl to be suspended for display when not in use. Size: 14.5" Diameter x 3.9" H (36.8 cm x 9.9 cm)
Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998
