Description:

Ancient Greece, Boeotia, ca. 550 BCE. A hand-built pottery female figure presenting with a concave ovoid base, a flattened columnar body, outstretched nubbin arms, and a long neck graced by a necklace with a ring-shaped pendant leading to her abstract, bird-like face. Her visage presents with painted eyes, a protruding beak-like nose, hair ornament that resembles a rosette, and a long coiffure with tendrils falling to her shoulders and back. A lovely example from this early culture of ancient Greece. Size: 2.125" W x 5.3" H (5.4 cm x 13.5 cm)

Provenance: ex Property from the George R. Francoeur Trust, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, sold to benefit the George R. Francoeur Scholarship Fund at Cranbrook Academy of Art, acquired at Martha Kapsoulaki, Athens, Greece, 1966
