Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 100 to 800 CE. A wonderful and very colorful necklace of a wearable form with strands bedecked with dozens of petite stone beads in hues of green, red, orange, purple, and blue. Sections of similarly colored beads are mirrored along each strand to create a patterned presentation, and five larger blue-hued beads - perhaps carved from sodalite - act as spacer beads throughout. Strung in modern times, this is a fabulous example of fine lapidary artistry from ancient Peru! Size (necklace): 19.3" L (49 cm); (central bead): 0.8" L x 0.4" W (2 cm x 1 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Ruth B. collection, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, acquired in the 1950s
