Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An elegant flask of a petite form, free-blown from an opaque glass combination of pale blue, green and white, swirled together to create this stunning little masterpiece. The elongated piriform vessel exhibits curving bands of windswept iridescence over the underlying marbled glass. Vessels like this were used primarily in ladies' toilettes for holding scented oils and perfumes. Size: 1.31" L x 1.33" W x 4.18" H (3.3 cm x 3.4 cm x 10.6 cm); 4.7" H (11.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Wailea, Hawaii, USA collection, acquired via descent from father, who collected prior to 2000

  • Condition: Repair to rim, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Small spall along one side of rim, with weathering film and light earthen deposits, and some flaking to iridescence commensurate with age and fragility, otherwise in excellent condition. Wonderful rainbow iridescence throughout!
