Native American, Northwestern United States, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Plateau Tribes, Nez Perce / Yakama, ca. mid-20th century CE. A gorgeous zippered purse made from stiff canvas completely covered in beadwork! The blue background is flat stitched and the flower and leaves are contoured. Native people in the Columbia River Plateau region (eastern Oregon / Washington, northern Idaho, and western Montana) were highly talented with beadwork, making bags and purses such as this for personal use during pow wows and for sale. Size: 7.5" L x 7" W (19 cm x 17.8 cm)
