Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, ca. 1350 to 1521 CE. A fabulous hand-built olla with a planar base, a gradually-widening body, a large rounded shoulder, and a tall flared rim. The highly-burnished vessel is covered with a red-orange slip and adorned in a dense decorative register of white-painted geometric details in circular, zigzag, linear, stepped, spiralized, and tendril-form motifs. The majority of the inside of the spout is colored and burnished in a similar manner as the exterior, though the interior of the olla body is unadorned. Size: 6.75" W x 7" H (17.1 cm x 17.8 cm).

  • Condition: Surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, small chips to base, widest area of body, shoulder, and rim, with fading to some areas of pigmentation. Light earthen deposits within interior, and nice mineral deposits throughout. Old inventory number in black ink and old inventory sticker on base.
