Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1000 CE. An absolutely lovely and vibrant polychrome textile fragment composed of tightly-woven natural camelid fibers in hues of crimson, cream, black, taupe, and beige. Central to the textile is a large standing warrior, dressed in tan and brown and wearing a large headdress or crown. This anthropomorphic depiction probably represents one of the Lord Kings of the Chimu people, though exactly which ruler remains unknown. Stylized waterbird designs are seen at the end of each tassel. Mounted on tan textile and displayed in a Lucite case. Size: 11" L x 4.5" W (27.9 cm x 11.4 cm); 14" H (35.6 cm) on included custom stand.
