Description:

**Originally Listed At $400**

Ancient Central Asia, Bactria, ca. 2500 to 2250 BCE. A fine jar of a hefty form, hand-carved from mottled stone of a pale yellow hue with white and russet inclusions. The round-bottomed vessel is of a stable form with a wide body, a tapered shoulder, and a discoid rim. The interior cavity still retains evidence of how the artisan chipped out much of the top layers and then drilled into the lower layers to form the basin and smooth out the walls; six circular indentations in a hexagonal formation are still visible at the bottom from the original drilling. A lovely example of ancient Bactrian ingenuity! Size: 4.1" W x 3.25" H (10.4 cm x 8.3 cm).
