Description:

South America, Bolivia, millions and millions of years old. A beautiful section of an amethyst geode, its round form with quartz and lavender-hued crystals in a diagonal orientation. The white and purple crystals surround a projecting crystalline column of purple hues at the bottom which gradually lighten to towards the upper face, and the top is mostly encircled by thick quartz. Geodes are formed when an exterior rock is lined with mineral materials and weathers more slowly than surrounding bedrock. The interior lining is a druse, a coating of fine crystals on a rock surface. These stones require specific geological environments to form, specifically voids within hardened volcanic lava deposits, and as a result they are relatively rare and found in special locations. Size: 8" W x 9.25" H (20.3 cm x 23.5 cm).
