Description:

South Pacific, Hawaii, ca. mid 20th century CE. A polished wooden bowl, made from the Polynesian hardwood kamani, which glows with a rich red-brown with very thin, dark bands diagonally across its body. The vessel has steep walls that curve gently inward and a slightly convex interior floor. Hawaiians are known for their beautiful carved wooden vessels. Prior to the 19th century, they were made with stone and coral tools, carved from kou, milo, and kamani trees most commonly. This vessel continues that historical artistry. Size: 4.4" W x 4.25" H (11.2 cm x 10.8 cm)
