Description:

Ancient Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang culture, ca. 300 BCE. A two-part mold for casting broad axe heads. Each half has a flat base, a parabolic body, and a recessed interior groove which mirrors that of the other half so molten metal could easily flow into the gaps and create an evenly-shaped weapon. Traces of a chalky release agent are still visible within each half of the mold and would have facilitated the removal of the still-hot axe. Size: 3.625" W x 6.25" H (9.2 cm x 15.9 cm).
