Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fabulous pottery jar presenting a round base, a spherical body, a corseted neck, and a flared, annular rim. Adorned in hues of maroon and black, the ancient vessel is elegantly decorated with a slender, horizontal strip of applied clay that sits atop its curved shoulder, as well as softly incised lines that envelope most of its body.
