Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi Province, Bahia culture, ca. 5th to 1st century BCE. A hollow, hand-built figure depicted in a seated position atop an integral third leg. From broad shoulders droop attenuated arms, and ovoid eyes, a prominent nose, and pierced ears comprise the stylized visage beneath an enlarged head. The entire figure is decorated in densely-incised linear, geometric, and spiraling motifs, and the figure is covered in pale-orange slip. Size: 6" W x 11.5" H (15.2 cm x 29.2 cm).

Minor nicks and abrasions to legs, body, arms, and head, with softening to some incised details, and fading to original pigmentation. Light earthen deposits throughout.
