Description:

Central Asia, Bactria, ca. 2000 to 1700 BCE. A hand-carved stone stamp seal of rectangular form with an integral suspension loop emanating from the verso. Incised on the stamp face is a right-facing lion standing on all four delineated legs, its body displaying vertical stripes and a sinuous tail, and with a raised head and open mouth. Above the leonine creature is an abstract zoomorph, perhaps a bird in flight, and beneath its legs is a petite star. Size: 1.75" W x 1.625" H (4.4 cm x 4.1 cm)
