Description:

Central Asia, Bactrian, ca. 2500 to 2250 BCE. A hefty ball-shaped mace head, hand-carved from a mottled green stone with dark inclusions, with a central hafting hole oriented vertically through the middle. The top opening boasts a surrounding star in low relief with incised striations inside each point, and the body exhibits three large, left-facing zoomorphic figures. Each figure resembles an abstract feline, perhaps lions or lionesses, with some having large manes and all bearing sinuous tails. Size: 2.5" Diameter x 1.6" H (6.4 cm x 4.1 cm).
