Ancient Central Asia, Bactria, ca. 2500 BCE. A squat jar with a flat base, a compressed spherical body, and a flared rim surrounding the shallow interior, all hand-carved from beige-hued stone with grey and pale pink inclusions. The exterior exhibits pleasingly smooth surface textures and is decorated with two thin pairs of parallel striations. Size: 4.125" W x 2.25" H (10.5 cm x 5.7 cm)

Provenance: private California, USA collection, by descent, moved from Germany in 1997, originally collected in the 1970s in Hamburg, Germany
