Ancient Central Asia, Bactria, ca. 2500 to 2250 BCE. A beautifully preserved cosmetic dish carved from schist of a sage-green hue. The broad dish bears 8 petite receptacles within the floral-form arms that radiate off the deep basin walls and form the periphery. Incised circular and linear details still bear some remains of inlaid white material, perhaps crushed limestone. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only.
