Description:

Ancient Central Asia, Bactria-Margiana (BMAC), ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A hand-built pottery stamp seal of a corseted tubular form with varying recessed designs inscribed into each stamp face. The circular stamp face exhibits a series of dots that surround a central, enclosed dot, and the square stamp face features an intricate spiralized design. Stamps like this example were used to form a seal after being dipped in wax. Custom putty impressions included. Size: 1.5" L x 0.9" W (3.8 cm x 2.3 cm); 2.4" H (6.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired from Venus Gallery, Israel, in 2002
