Central Asia, Bactrian, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A stunning greyware container depicting a horse supporting a tall vessel emerging from the animal's back, two of its four flat-faced walls incised with abstract feathered patterns, this rectangular prism body resolving to a short cylindrical neck and flat broad rim, with a single handle bridging the area just beneath the shoulder to the the rear end of the horse. Additional incised decorative markings adorn the chest of the horse. Impressive for its equine shape and attractive incised decoration. Size: 5" W x 6.5" H (12.7 cm x 16.5 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated; if purchased, you will receive a report confirming its age.
