Central Asia or Asia Minor, Bactria, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A skillfully carved marble vessel presenting an overall cylindrical form that gently tapers as it rises to a dramatically flared rim. In addition to its attractive form, the vessel is made from inherently beautiful white marble with dramatic black and grey inclusions - AND - it presents lovely areas of translucency when held to the light. A piece like this required immense skill and much time to create! Size: 3.625" in diameter at rim x 4.5" H (9.2 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; This piece was formerly part of a private American collection assembled from the 1960s to 1980s.
