Ancient Central Asia, Bactria-Margiana (BMAC), ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A cast copper alloy with high silver content stamp showcasing a seated monkey with a curved tail within the openwork circular border. The left-facing figure holds one arm out in front of the slender body and has a lengthy pony tail or hair braid projecting from behind the raised head. Stamps like this example were used to create seals after being dipped in wax and are known as compartmented stamps based on the solid backing of some details like the figure in this example. Custom putty impression included. Size: 2.125" W x 2.125" H (5.4 cm x 5.4 cm); 3.75" H (9.5 cm) on included custom stand.
