Description:

Ancient Central Asia, Bactria-Margiana (BMAC), ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A beautiful openwork stamp cast from copper alloy that displays four triangular panels with concentric chevron motifs enclosed with the scalloped periphery. A petite handle behind the center of the stamp enabled the user to sufficiently grip the tool when in use. Stamps like this example were used to create ornate seals after being dipped in wax so its owner could be identified and the contents of the stamped object or document remained unperturbed until it reached its recipient. Custom putty impression included. Size: 1.75" W x 1.75" H (4.4 cm x 4.4 cm); 3" H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand.
