Central Asia, Bactria-Margiana, ca. 2nd to 1st millennium BCE. A bronze stamp seal with a series of circles ringing a central circle in relief on its face. The handle on its obverse is in the form of a horse, with a large loop on its back to allow it to be worn as a pendant or hung from a belt. Bactrian items like this are sometimes known as "compartmented" seals, and were cast both in geometric (like this one) and figural patterns; they are distinctive to this region.
