Central Asia, Bactrian, ca. 700 BCE to 100 CE. A lovely twin handled kohl vessel as well as an applicator that fits the vessel well - both cast via the lost wax process. Kohl was one of the most important cosmetics used by women of the time (the ancients' version of eyeliner and mascara). Ancient Bactria was located between the Hindu Kush mountain range and the Amu Darya River, covering the flat region that straddles modern-day Afghanistan and Tajikistan, and its bronze industry had a local origin. Size: 1.375" W handlespan x 3.625" H (3.5 cm x 9.2 cm); applicator measures 4" L (10.2 cm)
