Central Asia, Bactria, ca. 500 BCE. A lovely bronze bowl with low relief motifs around its center showing elephants, probably inspired by contact with the people of the Indus Valley south of the Hindu Kush, who used elephants for war. The bowl has a curved base and an unpronounced rim. Time has given it fine deposits and a rich patina. Size: 5.7" W x 2.65" H (14.5 cm x 6.7 cm)

Provenance: private California, USA collection, by descent, moved from Germany in 1997, originally collected in the 1970s in Hamburg, Germany
