Description:

**Originally Listed At $300**

Central Asia, Bactria (Bactria Margiana Archaeological Complex / BMAC), ca. late 3rd to early 2nd millennium BCE. A large hand-carved alabaster vessel with a petite but stable base, globular body, squat neck, a narrow mouth, deep interior cavity, and a planar discoid rim. The vessel has relatively thin walls, resulting in translucency that allows bright light to illuminate the alabaster's cream and tan hues. Alabaster vessels have been found in high status tombs from Bactria. For example, in the ancient city of Ai Khanum, at the confluence of the rivers Kokcha and Oxus in modern day Afghanistan, several alabaster vessels were found in the tomb of Kineas, the founder of the city. Size: 3.625" W x 4" H (9.2 cm x 10.2 cm).
