Description:

**Originally Listed At $1000**

Central Asia, Bactria-Margiana (BMAC), ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A fascinating group of four bronze stamps, each with a small handle presenting an integral loop for suspension on the verso. Two of the round stamps present openwork geometric designs, one with a wavy border and the other with a zigzag border. The third round stamp presents four striated quadrants. Finally, the fourth is triangular in form with hook-like termini at each corner. These would have been used to form a seal, dipped in wax. Seals of this style are sometimes known as "compartmented" seals, and were cast both in geometric and figural patterns. They are distinctive to this region. Size: the largest measures 2" in diameter (5.1 cm)

Provenance: private California, USA Collection; purchased in 1990s from a London, UK collection from Earl Kiefer through John Rillings
