Central Asia, Iran / Afghanistan region, Bactrian culture, ca. 2nd to 1st millennium BCE. An unusual and rare stone palette made from a lightweight and lustrous black stone, perhaps anthracite or jet, with 3 shallow well depressions in the center - perfectly fingertip shaped, perhaps for storing and applying cosmetics or ointments. The peripheries are carved with concentric circular motifs. Size: 3" L x 2" W x 0.75" H (7.6 cm x 5.1 cm x 1.9 cm)
