Description:

Ancient Near East, Babylon, ca. 2000 BCE. A sculpted pottery figure showing a kneeling man with his hands joined and crossed at his chest. The man's empty-eyed skyward gaze shows his devotion to the deities of old, and his large beard is indicative of being an older member of ancient Babylonian society. Broad shoulders, a large chest, and prominent ears are also indicative of this figure coming from the ancient Near East. This figure may have been created as a votive object which would have been left at a shrine or altar by a worshipper in reverence of the deity being exalted. Size: 1.5" L x 2" W x 3.75" H (3.8 cm x 5.1 cm x 9.5 cm).
