Description:

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Babylon, Old Babylonian Period, ca. 1900 to 1800 BCE. A finely preserved example of a cylindrical stamp seal bead carved from brown-black hematite with a perforated suspension hole through the body. The exterior is engraved with a scene depicting a regal male presenting a female concubine to a larger deity with a female attendee standing behind his back. Amongst the human figures are a man-headed monkey jumping playfully towards the concubine, a lizard and a man-headed canine behind the female attendee, and an encircled sun disc above the attendee's head. Custom putty impression included. Size: 0.875" L x 0.375" W (2.2 cm x 1 cm)
