Description:

Kang Yon Cho (Korean-American, 1953-2021). "Morning Frost" oil on canvas, n.d. Signed on lower left. A stunning landscape painting finely rendered in oil on canvas by Kang Cho, a Korean-born artist who later called two American cities - Denver, Colorado and Santa Fe, New Mexico - his adopted homes. In this painting, Cho invites viewers to lose themselves in autumnal splendor. The composition features a dense grove of trees - including a few Aspens boasting beautiful white bark - all painted close to the picture plane with a carpet of colorful leaves that have fallen below, as well as peekaboo glimpses of golden yellow, pumpkin orange, and russet red leaves that still cling to boughs above. Size (sight view): 11.5" L x 8.5" W (29.2 cm x 21.6 cm) Size (frame): 17.75" L x 14.75" W (45.1 cm x 37.5 cm)

About the artist: Born in Seoul, South Korea, Kang Cho moved to Chicago in 1969 during his teenage years. Cho later studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois where he received a full scholarship. In 1976, Cho moved to Denver, Colorado upon the recommendation of his mentor Bill Sharer. Cho became part of Denver's artistic community and was encouraged by artist Ned Jacob. Cho also lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico for several years where, captivated by the colors of the landscape, he painted for several years prior to passing away in December of 2021.

Kang Cho's paintings (both oils and watercolors) have won many awards. These include the Elizabeth T. Greenshields Grant International Competition and the Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship Grant National Competition. In addition, Cho's work has been featured in Art of the West, Southwest Art, Western Art Digest, and more.
