Description:

Oceania, Australia, Aboriginal peoples, ca. 1920s CE. A gorgeous hand-carved wooden boomerang meant for hunting rather than for display. The body is gently curved and ready to be thrown, with the handle portion being longer than the head end. The obverse side is slightly curved, with both ends smooth and rounded, and a series of incised grooves give one side of the handle a textured gripping surface. Aboriginals made tools and airfoil weaponry from a variety of different woods known for their high density, heavy weight, and sturdy construction. This example displays lovely remains of natural red ochre pigment, giving it a personalized presentation characteristic of Aboriginal artistry! Size: 6.75" W x 30.5" H (17.1 cm x 77.5 cm); 32.75" H (83.2 cm) on included custom stand.
