Description:

**Previously Listed For $300 **

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built standing female terracotta figure painted in a polychrome palette of red, cream, and dark grey. Her face modeled in the style known as "sheep face" presents an angular form with a protruding nose, expressive eyes and mouth. Dressed to impress, she dons a striped headband, large round earspools, a nose ring, a striped skirt, double armbands, and tattooed arched striations from shoulder to belly outlining her breasts. Given this elaborate attire and finely painted finish, this piece was probably intended to accompany an elite individual in the afterlife. A wonderful example from this shaft tomb culture. Size: 4.25" W x 5.875" H (10.8 cm x 14.9 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Private Colorado Springs, CO collection, ex Yanez collection formed in the 1960's
