Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero, Mezcala, ca. 400 to 100 BCE. A finely detailed Mezcala greenstone figure, carved and string-cut from an inherently beautiful speckled and pistachio-hued green stone. The figure, with a large cone-shaped hat, drilled eyes, perky ears, and protruding chin, has arms bent and hands covering its chest while framing its expanded abdomen above short pointed legs. Bilaterally drilled through back of neck so as to be worn or displayed as a pendant with a necklace strand. A wonderful and rare example of Mezcala greenstone carvings! Size: 1.3" W x 3.75" H (3.3 cm x 9.5 cm).

Provenance: ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA, acquired prior to 1970
