Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico and northern Central America, Mayan Territories, Late Classic, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A beautiful cylinder made for drinking a distinct type of cocoa drink that was extremely popular with the Maya. The body is painted with a wide checkerboard motif around most of its exterior body, framed by a thin orange band and then a wide red band on either end. The interior is unpainted. Triangles, lozenges, and checkerboards were all common Mayan motifs on domestic pottery. A pretty example with a beautiful ancient surface! Size: 3.9" W x 6.5" H (9.9 cm x 16.5 cm)
