Description:

South Asia, Indus Valley, Harrapan/Mohenjo Daro, ca. 2800 to 1800 CE. A petite wheel-thrown terracotta vessel with a wide circular foot, bulbous body, rounded shoulders which taper to a thin flared rim. The body displays a repeating chestnut-hued concentric circle motif with several solid bands of brown above and below the design, and the inner rim is detailed with a burnt-orange pigment below a dark brown band. Vessels like this would have held oils, spices, or other more uncommon substances. Size: 4" W x 2" H (10.2 cm x 5.1 cm).
