Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A lovely standing axe god figure of a rotund form, hand-carved from mottled sage-green stone with dark-green inclusions. The figure stands upon delineated, tapered legs - hence the name "axe god" - and holds stocky arms against the corpulent chest. The head boasts recessed ovoid eyes, a flush triangular nose, and a string-cut mouth, all beneath a hemispherical forehead. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 2.7" W x 4.8" H (6.9 cm x 12.2 cm).
