Description:

Italy, Apulia/Daunian, ca. 300 BCE. This is a really fine example of Daunian pottery, which was influenced by the cultural commingling of the native Italians and colonist Greeks who settled in the area at this time. This is an olpe, with a tall, strap-like handle, and a smooth profile. It has a very broad rim and was made to pour wine. The designs are linear bands of black and red on a creamy slip. The wide strap handle is a particular signifier of Daunian pottery. Size: 5.65" W x 5.75" H (14.4 cm x 14.6 cm)

Provenance: Ex - Private Dana Simons collection, Houston, Texas via family descent
