Ancient Near East, Assyria, ca. 1000 BCE. A lovely banded jasper cylinder seal, featuring pale pink and orange hues, and carved with a procession of two fantastical characters: an animal-headed, human-bodied figure seated on a mound, acting as a supplicant to a standing mythological being. The seal is pierced through vertically for suspension. It is accompanied by a clay roll out showing its motifs. Size: 0.5" W x 1" H (1.3 cm x 2.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-Upper West Side, New York, USA collection, acquired in Israel in the 1980s
