Description:

Native American, Midwestern United States, Ohio, Archaic to Woodlands cultures, ca. 2000 BCE to 1000 CE. An interesting butterfly or bowtie shaped tool, flaked from a banded slate stone - perhaps a bannerstone preform or an axe. If intended to use as a bannerstone the maker did not complete the traditional perforation through the center, hence the preform designation. If intended as an axe the narrow area could be hafted to a wood handle. Size: 5.75" L x 3" W (14.6 cm x 7.6 cm)
