Description:

Native American, Southeastern United States, Virginia, Henry County, Eastern Woodland, Archaic Period, ca. 3000 to 1000 BCE. A bannerstone preform that was perhaps used as a tool for hunting or had a ritualistic purpose once complete. The stone has been carved into nearly bowtie shape with inward curving sides that flare outward at the ends. If intended to use as a bannerstone the maker did not complete the traditional perforation through the center, hence the preform designation. Size: 3.5" L x 2" W (8.9 cm x 5.1 cm)
