Description:

Greece, Archaic, ca. 6th to 5th century BCE. Presenting the characteristic abstract stylings of the Geometric period, a ceramic horse standing squarely on all four legs, with applied reigns, delineated hooves, mane, and tail. Sculpture of this period is generally small in scale and figures have simplified schematic shapes as we see in this example. A wonderful piece representing the beginning of Greek figural art when the Hellenic penchant for naturalism is in its embryonic stages. Size: 5.5" L x 5.25" H (14 cm x 13.3 cm)
