Description:

Ancient Greece, Archaic to Classical Period, ca. 640 to 430 BCE. A cast-bronze figure of a nude male youth called a kouros in a kneeling position with feet drawn up onto his toes. The boy places both hands atop his thighs while kneeling atop a petite rectangular cushion or step, perhaps meant to be facing towards a temple or a priest, with shallow musculature and gently sloped shoulders defining his physique. Delicately incised facial features create the stylized physiognomy while his coiffure is draped behind his ears and down his back; a tall, tongue-shaped projection rises behind his head, perhaps hair. Smooth layers of green and brown patina have developed over the centuries and attest to its timeless beauty. Size: 1.6" L x 1.3" W x 4.25" H (4.1 cm x 3.3 cm x 10.8 cm); 5.6" H (14.2 cm) on included custom stand.
