Description:

Greece, possibly Boeotia, Archaic Period, ca. 7th century BCE. A charming cast bronze figure of a quadruped, probably a young deer, with long legs and a spindly body as well as a long tail. The legs appear to be those of an ungulate, ending in hooves, and the head is leaning forward while the body leans back, with the large ears lying flat along the plane of the head. This gives the viewer an impression of cautious curiosity on the part of the animal, whose thin frame suggests immaturity. The figure stands on a thin, integrated, rectangular platform. This example was probably made to be a votive figure. Size: 2.25" W x 1.6" H (5.7 cm x 4.1 cm)
